The Rotary Club of
Washington DC, as one of the oldest and largest Rotary Clubs, is
extremely active in addressing many of the most pressing
humanitarian issues facing people around the world today,
including HIV/AIDS, hunger, clean water, healthcare for children
and -- an increasingly important tool that is being used to
address worldwide poverty -- youth entrepreneurship. We have
several large projects in progress and several more under
consideration for the upcoming year, including:
A potable water distribution system for 1,600 elementary school
students, teachers and villagers at three school sites in rural,
poverty-stricken villages in China.
Burn prevention, treatment and
rehabilitation programs for children in Panama, Dominican
Republic, El Salvador and Bolivia.
Electrocardiogram equipment for the public hospital in
Vicente Lopez, Argentina, and a children's vision program in the
region.
Water filtration systems for various
towns in Zambia.
Heart surgeries for children with severe heart ailments in
India.
An orphanage in Tanzania for children who have lost their
parents to HIV/AIDS.
Water
filtration systems for several towns in Argentina.
Malaria and youth disease projects in Senegal, Sudan and
Haiti.
